Without the invention of the printing press our world would look completely different today. In our time we are used to the idea of copy and paste. Without the possibility of reproduction there would be no mass culture and no industrial production. As an artist Lucas Cranach made use of printing techniques and brought his image of Martin Luther into circulation.
In our project we wanted to work with the idea of reproduction and variation. Usually the reproduction needs to be an exact copy. By using digital tools the process of duplication can be varied. Repetition and variation lead to new and unknown forms.
